This Data Deletion Policy explains how users can request the deletion of their personal data and BritEdge account, and describes the steps we take to securely remove such information in compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and other applicable laws.

1. User Right to Request Deletion

You have the right to request:
Deletion of your BritEdge account
Removal of personal information you previously provided
Restriction of further processing of your data
However, certain data may be retained as required by law or for legitimate business purposes.

2. How to Request Data Deletion

To request the deletion of your account or personal data, you may use any of the following channels:
In-app Request: Settings → Account → Delete Account

We will verify your identity to prevent unauthorized deletion requests.

3. What Happens When You Request Deletion

Once a deletion request is received and verified:

3.1 Account Deactivation

Your account will be deactivated immediately while we review the deletion request.

3.2 Data Removal

We will delete or anonymize:

Profile information
Contact details
Transaction records (where allowable)
Device and usage data
Saved settings and preferences

3.3 Non-Deletable Data

Certain information cannot be deleted for legal or regulatory reasons, including:
Financial transaction history
Loan records and repayment information
AML/KYC documentation
Records required for regulatory compliance (e.g., CBN, NDIC, NFIU)
Fraud monitoring logs
This data will be securely stored but no longer used for any non-legal purpose.

4. Data Retention Period

Even after account deletion, we may retain certain data for:
5–7 years for financial compliance
As required by law for audits, fraud prevention, or dispute resolution
After the retention period, all data will be permanently deleted or irreversibly anonymized.

5. Effects of Deleting Your Account

When your account is deleted:
You will lose access to all BritEdge services
All active sessions will be terminated
All savings, cooperatives, and investment accounts must be settled before deletion
Outstanding loans must be repaid in full before deletion can be approved
We cannot delete an account with unsettled financial obligations.

6. Third-Party Data Deletion

We will notify relevant third-party partners, where applicable, to remove your data from:
Payment gateways
KYC verification partners
Credit bureaus (where applicable)
Cloud or storage providers
BritEdge is not responsible for policies of third parties outside our control.

7. Processing Timeline

We aim to complete the deletion process within:
7–30 business days, depending on legal and financial review
Complex cases (involving loans, disputes, or investigations) may take longer
